Museum
The Gardeners Museum is a special jewel that lies at the heart of the town’s history
The tradition of market gardening in Wolfenbüttel is nearly three hundred years old. The Gardeners Museum Society is devoted to keeping that tradition alive with passion and hard work.

The wonderful building complex comprises a residential house, middle building, wash house, coach house and stables. This is set in a small, but perhaps therefore even more idyllic garden area which has a magical attraction for visitors. The centuries old traditions of Wolfenbüttel as a gardeners’ town are an experience for young and old alike. Little wonder that this inviting environment has already become a location for the NDR TV programme Landpartie.

These days there are ever fewer market gardens, and for precisely that reason, the Gardeners Museum Society tries to keep their traditions fresh and alive. They acquired the Streckhof (a narrow farm) at 33, Neuer Weg in 2007 and renovated it with painstaking devotion.

Today, the visitor can make a fascinating journey through centuries, to discover near-forgotten know-how of the market gardeners, and their formative influence on the town, its cultural life and its economy. There are vivid examples of the furniture, pictures, tools and their application, as well as the production and marketing of local varieties of fruit and vegetables. At different times of the year there are various exhibitions and projects.
