The concept, which was created in line with the latest thinking about museums, concentrates on many different aspects of town life in Wolfenbüttel. As you experience the different worlds, you will find out how Wolfenbüttel, in the shadow of the court at the Schloss, became a town; learn more about the importance of its waterways for the industrialisation of the town, and accompany Wolfenbüttel through the 19th and 20th centuries, with both world wars, the ‘Economic Miracle’ and restorations which continue right up to the present day
The exhibits are as varied as their subjects: from the famous ‘sound furniture’ made by Kuba Imperial, the manufacturer of entertainment technology, to the canning machine and original documents restored by modern technology. There’s lots to see and lots to hear as well, as you can listen in, at various points, to the personal stories of the people of Wolfenbüttel — either in German or in English.
The Bürger Museum shows, in an impressive way, that our town is not only imbued with the lives of nobility, but with the ways of everyday men and women too. Also offered are lectures and special educational opportunities for children and young people, as well as special exhibitions about Wolfenbüttel people throughout history.
