The representative and private rooms, designed between 1690 and 1740, show the former splendour of courtly life in the residence of the Dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg. This is impressively reflected in the magnificent paintings, baroque furniture, sculptures and tapestries. Special exhibitions on selected topics of cultural, art and regional history make a visit to the Schloss Museum Wolfenbüttel a special experience.
In October 2024, the Schloss Museum Wolfenbüttel added the 18th century dinner service known as the "Dutch Service" to its collection. The "Dutch Service" was produced by the Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory in the 1770s to the order of an unknown customer from the Netherlands and was then painted in the manufactory's colourful painting workshop in Brunswick. The porcelain was later acquired by Willem Suermondt (1740 to 1828), the mayor of Rotterdam at the time - presumably for a dinner with the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.
The service will be integrated into the permanent exhibition from 2026. Before then, a special exhibition is planned for 2025. It will also be on display in its entirety for a short time until 10 November 2024.
