Frida – Viva la Vida

Straight theatre
A monologue about art, pain and passion | By Leopold Huber
To get closer to Frida Kahlo, the young actress Vivienne Causemann creates a multi-layered studio space as white as a blank sheet of paper. Self-determined, passionate and powerful like the Mexican painter, she brings her life story to life and her world-famous art to life in a surprising way.

"Frida - Viva la Vida" is a haunting monologue consisting of diary entries and testimonies from the painter herself. Characterized by physical limitations - polio left her with a shortened leg and a serious bus accident defined her life - Kahlo found expression for her suffering in art. Her political commitment led her to the communist revolutionary Leon Trotsky. Her conflict-ridden relationship with the painter Diego Rivera, whom she married twice, had a profound impact on her.

After fifty acclaimed performances at the Vorarlberger Landestheater, the production can now be experienced as a touching guest performance.
