A stage tribute to Chet Baker | By Volker Präkelt
A stage production full of jazz, longing and poetry: "Chet on the Beach" tells the story of a musician caught between freedom and loss. Inspired by an episode in the spring of 1988, a snapshot of the legendary trumpeter's life unfolds. Instead of a concert performance, Chet Baker follows his longing for the sea. A chance encounter with a young woman becomes the harbinger of his farewell. Nobody suspects that Baker's last big concert is imminent.

Trumpeter Ingolf Burkhardt and author Volker Präkelt focus on Baker's musical genius. His gentle voice and poetic trumpet art come to life in a mixture of drama, live music and multimedia staging.

A top-class ensemble lends this homage a special intensity: Ingolf Burkhardt on the trumpet, Sascha Rotermund as narrator and Ella Burkhardt, who reinterprets Baker's songs.

Accompanied by jazz classics such as "My Funny Valentine", the exploration of a life between rise, fall and longing unfolds. Projections and sound collages enhance the experience - a Chet Baker story as it has never been told before.
